RealUptime Errors vs Bugsnag

Bugsnag, sold by SmartBear as part of Insight Hub, is strongest where apps crash on devices: mobile crash reporting with app-stability scores, plus real-user monitoring and distributed tracing, priced on event volume. RealUptime Errors covers web and backend error tracking only, at a flat monthly price. If you ship a native mobile app, Bugsnag is playing a game we are not in; if you do not, you may be paying for that game anyway.

10,000 events a month, 14-day retention

Partial

a free tier exists for one collaborator; a trial fronts the paid plans

Flat, predictable monthly price

Have

$0, $23.99, or $58.99 a month; the plan price is the ceiling

Don’t have

priced on monthly event volume; the cost scales with your traffic

Mobile crash reporting

Don’t have

SDKs cover JavaScript, Go, PHP, Python, and Ruby; no mobile SDKs

Have

the product's core strength: native iOS/Android crash reporting with stability scores

Real-user monitoring and distributed tracing

Don’t have

deliberately out of scope; this product is error tracking only

Have

bundled into Insight Hub alongside error monitoring

Data scrubbing on by default

Have

SDKs drop authorization headers, cookies, and card- and token-shaped strings by default; the server applies the same rules again

Partial

redactedKeys filtering ships with defaults per SDK, but broader scrubbing is configuration you set up

Is there a free tier?

RealUptime is free to start and never asks for a card. One signup turns on the free rung of every product: 10 monitors with a public status page, 5 server-agent slots, and 10,000 error events a month kept for 14 days. RealUptime Outages is free to read with no account at all.

Bugsnag: a free tier for one collaborator, with a trial in front of the paid plans.

Is it open source or self-hosted?

RealUptime's core is a hosted service and its source is not published, so there is no self-hosted edition of the platform itself. The parts that run on your side are open source at github.com/RealUptimeHQ: the CLI and the RealUptime Errors SDKs for JavaScript, Python, Go, PHP and Ruby are MIT-licensed, and the Grafana data source is Apache 2.0.

Bugsnag: a hosted product that publishes no source and no self-hosted edition.

If self-hosting is a hard requirement, these are the options in this category: GlitchTip is MIT-licensed, Sentry publishes and documents a self-hosted edition, and Bugsink is source-available under PolyForm Shield, which is not an OSI open-source license.
